Promote open EDA tools under free license to design open electronic components

Goal

  • Provide open EDA tools for chips design
  • Provide open standard cells librairies and open analog blocks
  • Finance open design projects

Context

Nowadays, control of the semiconductor industry is a critical element both economical and political.

Europe launched the European Chips Act in November 2023 to relocate component manufacturing plants to Europe. To benefit from these colossal investments, we need to facilitate access to EDA tools and train young engineers.

In France, software trainings are more developed than those related to electronic components, however, software does not run without electronic components.

Assignments

  • Make EDA tools in the field of electronic components accessible (open, under free license).
  • Give the right to analyze, modify, distribute and exploit these tools.
  • Create an accessible database of descriptions (schematics, plans) of electronic components (open descriptions under free license), updated regularly.
  • Integrate Coriolis within a coherent CAD tooll chain covering the design and verification of electronic components.

Values

  • Transmit and share knowledge in the field of electronic components.
  • Address the skills shortage and attract new talents in the field of electronic components.
  • Contribute to the semiconductor ecosystem in Europe.
